Sarah Lee ~ Jeweller Artist

About

I discovered jewellery at a Christchurch Polytechnic night class with Ann Visser and instantly knew I had found something that I could become truly obsessed by. Alas, as Ann didn't need me as an apprentice, I took another three years to summon up the courage to become a fulltime student. With a move up north of Auckland to study at Hungry Creek Art and Craft School I completed my Diploma, majoring in jewellery and sculpture (and unofficially, ceramics).

Although my work is often inspired by the landscape in which I live, it is an emotional landscape rather than a physical one. Pieces invariably come into being as the result of an interaction with another person, be it a conversation or simply an observation. This experience, combined with my black humour and strangely sentimental nature, festers in my mind until I can express it through my work.

From a childhood where bliss could be found through making fiddly little things, I am lucky enough to have a chance to return there as an adult and spend my time doing what I love.
